Your kidneys are pair of organs located toward your lower back. One kidney is on each side of your spine.

They filter your blood and remove toxins from your body. Your kidneys send toxins to your bladder. Your body later removes toxins during urination.

Kidney failure occurs when your kidneys lose the ability to filter waste from your blood sufficiently. Many factors can interfere with your kidney health and function, such as:

*toxic exposure to environmental pollutants

*certain acute and chronic diseases

*severe dehydration

*kidney trauma

Your body becomes overloaded with toxins if your kidneys can’t do their regular job. This can lead to kidney failure and even be life-threatening if it’s left untreated.

Causes kidney Failure

People who are most at risk for kidney failure usually suffer from one or more of the following causes:

Loss of Blood Flow to the Kidneys

A sudden loss of blood flow to your kidneys can prompt kidney failure. Some diseases and conditions that cause loss of blood flow to the kidneys include:

1-A heart attack

2-Heart disease

3-Scarring of the liver or liver failure

4-Dehydration

5-A severe burn

6-An allergic reaction

7-A severe infection, such as sepsis

8-Urine Elimination Problems

When your body can’t eliminate urine, toxins build up and overload the kidneys. Some cancers can block the urine passageways. These include prostate (most common type in men), colon, cervical, and bladder cancers. Other conditions can interfere with urination and possibly lead to kidney failure, including:

kidney stones

an enlarged prostate

blood clots within your urinary tract

damage to the nerves that control your bladder

Blood tests, urine, and regular monitoring is also used to detect when the kidneys begin to lose function and leading to kidney failure. symptoms of kidney failure as follows:

     5-desire more frequent urination, especially at night.

     10-Accumulation of fluid causes swelling of the ankles, or hands.

     11-Dizziness and vomiting.

     12-The decline in mental acuity.

     13-Pain in the chest due to fluid accumulates around the heart.

     14-It's hard to breathe.

     15-Unstable blood pressure.

Diabetes may cause kidney failure

Diabetes is one of the main causes of chronic kidney disease. There are two main types of diabetes:

     1- The situation when the body produces little or no insulin.

     2- when state spending enough insulin, but the body does not use insulin effectively.

Insulin is needed by the body to perform the following functions:

     Control the level of glucose (sugar) in the blood.

     Restricting glucose getting too high after a meal.

     Controlling glucose levels being too low in the period in between meals.

If your blood sugar is too high, this can affect the ability of the kidneys to function to filter out impurities in the blood. So it is very important for diabetics to maintain the level of glucose (blood sugar) them through a healthy diet and taking antidiabetic drugs according to doctors.

What is GFR?

GFR - glomerular filtration rate is the best test to measure your level of kidney function and determine your stage of kidney disease. Your doctor can calculate it from the results of your blood creatinine test, your age, body size and gender. Your GFR tells your doctor your stage of kidney disease and helps the doctor plan your treatment. If your GFR number is low, your kidneys are not working as well as they should. The earlier kidney disease is detected, the better the chance of slowing or stopping its progression.

Your GFR number tells you how much kidney function you have.

As kidney disease gets worse, the GFR number goes down.

What happens if your test results show you may have chronic kidney disease?

A GFR below 60 for three months or more or a GFR above 60 with kidney damage (marked by high levels of albumin in your urine) indicates chronic kidney disease.

Typically, a simple urine test will also be done to check for blood or albumin (a type of protein) in the urine. When you have albumin in your urine it is called albuminuria.  Blood or protein in the urine can be an early sign of kidney disease.

People with a high amount of albumin in their urine are at an increased risk of having chronic kidney disease progress to kidney failure. (See chart below)

High Blood Pressure May Cause Kidney Failure

our kidneys filter excess fluid and waste from your blood — a process that depends on healthy blood vessels. High blood pressure can injure both the blood vessels in and leading to your kidneys, causing several types of kidney disease (nephropathy). Having diabetes in addition to high blood pressure can worsen the damage.

Kidney failure.

High blood pressure is one of the most common causes of kidney failure. That's because it can damage both the large arteries leading to your kidneys and the tiny blood vessels (glomeruli) within the kidneys. Damage to either makes it so your kidneys can't effectively filter waste from your blood. As a result, dangerous levels of fluid and waste can accumulate. You might ultimately require dialysis or kidney transplantation.

Kidney scarring (glomerulosclerosis).

Glomerulosclerosis  

A type of kidney damage caused by scarring of the glomeruli. The glomeruli are tiny clusters of blood vessels within your kidneys that filter fluid and waste from your blood. Glomerulosclerosis can leave your kidneys unable to filter waste effectively, leading to kidney failure.

Kidney artery aneurysm.

An aneurysm is

A bulge in the wall of a blood vessel. When it occurs in an artery leading to the kidney, it's known as a kidney (renal) artery aneurysm. One potential cause is atherosclerosis, which weakens and damages the artery wall. Over time, high blood pressure in a weakened artery can cause a section to enlarge and form a bulge - the aneurysm. Aneurysms can rupture and cause life-threatening internal bleeding.
